Class 5's Fish!!!!

Class 5 are thrilled to announce that we have welcomed 2 new additions to our class, 2 beautiful goldfish named Shadow and Sushi! Shadow is a Black Moor goldfish and Sushi is a Pearl Scale goldfish. We brought them using the money raised from Spooky Snacks back in October. I must say a huge thank you to Ellen and her family for generously offering their fish tank, it looks fantastic! As fish need to be introduced slowly, we have 2 fish to begin with and we plan to introduce a few more once we return from Abernant. I see this as a great opportunity for children to develop their sense of responsibility as we are all collectively responsible for the maintenance and well being of our fish. If you are ever wondering past our classroom, please pop in and have a look at our fabulous pets!

The Art of Quilling at Moorhens

Children from Ladybirds to year 5 helped out with a project in quilling.

We designed a parrot to go on Moorhens wall, but as it was quite large, we split the piece of art into 3 sections so that it was easier for the children to do.

We couldn't believe how well the infant children got the hang of this, but some would leave playing on the computers just to have another go.

This was a great social event for the children as it took quite a while to do and the stories and jokes which were told were a great way for the children to interact with one another.

The children were proud in what they had achieved and were happy with the final result.

Moorhens Artwork

Both staff and children at Moorhens decided to add some artwork to two very bland wooden cupboard doors.

The title we decided on was 'Spring & Summer and Autumn & Winter'.

Different materials and textures were used such as wallpaper, cotton wool, tissue paper, textured paint, glitter, cardboard, cellophane and much more.

Sewing was also involved to add details to an Autumn leaf.

Younger children helped cut and stick extra leaves to the picture.

The Christmas tree was painted before tissue paper was added.

Pipe cleaners were then used to add the affect of trimmings to the Christmas tree.

Ladybird children helped roll tissue paper into balls and stuck them on to the picture of the sun.

Cellophane was used to add the effect of water movement.

Cotton wool was used to for ice cream whilst sweet paper helped to cover  an Easter egg.

Finger knitting with wool was added to finish off the sheep picture which gave it texture.

This is the final result. It's taken a few months to finish, but what a wonderful job the children have done.

Moorhenge Stonehenge Paperhenge !

Today in Class 3 we learnt about Stone circles from the Stone age.

We recreated our own circle so it looked like Stonehenge.

The children christened it either Moorhenge or Paperhenge!!!

The children really enjoyed their work today and it was great fun too!

I have tried to upload photos but I think I've saved them in the wrong format so I will try again tomorrow!

If any of the children read this post it would be great if they could comment and say what they have learnt today.
